Modern Boho Nursery with a Punch of Tropics || Kith & Kin
When I originally envisioned our daughters nursery, I knew I was going for some kind of a minimalist and boho blend. I had always loved the idea of plants in there and lots of white. I didn't want a generic baby theme. In fact, I wanted a style that could be easily changed with decor. Going for a basic white provides a clean base to go in any style direction and as she grows we can change the feel of the room just by adding accent pieces. To get her started though, I know babies don't need much so I decided to keep the furniture simple and decorate with the toys and things that will fill her life.
On the walls I added prints and shelves that hold toys, books, and a few favorite pieces from her wardrobe. Aside from plants and a very simple base color palate, one detail that was really important to me to have in her room were copies of the vows Brian and I said to each other on our wedding day. Though it is a small detail and they will sit above her head in her room it is so important to me for her to always be secure and affirmed in her mom and dads love for each other. I don't doubt that Brian and I will outwardly show our love and affection for one another, but I do know marriage can be tough and sometimes tension can build. Our wedding vows were promises that we made to each other years before our little peanut was even a thought. She wasn't around to hear them first hand and though little ones may not be able to easily grasp the gravity and sanctity of a marriage vow, we can teach her, read them to her, and show her what they mean. I wanted them in her room so that as she learns about them and the meaning behind them, they will be constant reminders of where this love and little family of ours started. In a way, this makes me feel like we get to include her in these promises and commitments even though they were planted long before she got here. Just like anyone who was present on our wedding day being witnesses and accountability to our marriage - she gets to hold us accountable to.
Of course, now that I feel like her room is finally "finished," it's always going to be a work in progress. As she grows and develops interests her room will be ever changing adding toys, photographs, memories, etc. I'm always looking for new ways to organize better and add character. What ways have you discovered keeping a little babes room organized without sacrificing style?
