First Few Weeks - Getting a Handle on Newborn Sleep || Kith + Kin
Our little lady is here! My first born has nestled her way out of her bed-womb and into our bedroom. Before she was born I got ALL the advice. "Get your sleep now." "Don't buy too many things because baby doesn't need it." The advice went on and on. Meanwhile, I had this perfect little idea that if I just gave my daughter a quick pep talk about sleep, she would sleep just fine in her bassinet and all would be well. Ha! Everyone say it with me - HA!
The first week she was in the NICU and slept in the crib just fine. Although it didn't hurt she was professionally swaddled and paci was propped in her mouth just right to get her in optimal sleeping conditions. The second week when she was home with us, she actually slept pretty well in her bassinet next to our bed. When week three came around, it was like getting hit with a bag of bricks. This girls life motto went from, "Whoa, the world is big - goodnight," to "Don't you even think about putting me down." She wouldn't sleep unless she was held and if she wasn't held she was crying. It was enough to drive my husband and I into a sleep deprived crazy mental state. Our Solly Wrap definitely got its fair share from the start. All three of us LOVE that thing. In fact, we run into the problem of being able to wash it we use it so much. One day she had a blowout in it and it was torture waiting for it to get through a wash cycle. As incredible as our Solly Wrap is, we needed a sleep solution.
One of the baby products that's all the rage in San Diego is the Dockatot. I wasn't quite convinced on it in my pregnancy though. Partly because my strong belief that my little cutie was going to be sleeping like a champ. Once she couldn't be put down I still wasn't quite ready to cave and jump on the Dockatot train so I started researching my options. This is how I came across Snuggle Me Organic.
Here's what I like about the Snuggle Me Organic and some differences with the Dockatot:
• Snuggle Me is a patented sensory lounger designed to fit baby's head and torso with their legs draped over the bottom end. It has an unpadded center sling that pulls the sides in to hug baby when laid on top. Dockatot is a padded bassinet or baby nest and will not hug baby.
• Snuggle Me is super easy to care for. The cover removes within seconds for washing and you can even use the Snuggle Me while your cover is in the wash. Dockatot's cover is very complex and takes practice to get on and off; you cannot use it without its cover.
• Snuggle Me is fully enclosed and has zero buckles or straps for baby to be trapped in. Our secure and fully enclosed system ensures baby stays in place and cannot scoot out of the lounger. Dockatot features a bottom buckle system, which in theory sounds great, but extreme caution should be used if using with baby.
• Snuggle Me uses USA made fabrics and is made in Minnesota, USA. The fabrics are GOTS certified and CPSIA regulated. USA made fabrics currently hold the highest safety standards in world. Dockatot has a European certificate which is inferior to the US standards.
Most importantly, my daughter loves it and sleeps in it. This same little stinker who could not handle being put down, let alone sleep without the comfort of human touch sleeps in it. For the first time in weeks our tired arms get a break and I feel so much better that she is safe in there.
The snuggle me is more than just place to put our sweet little bundle to sleep. It gives us a safe, portable place to let her lounge when she's awake and it's a gentle tummy time hang-out.
